Tussenland II

With this artwork, the artists draw attention to the boundary between water and land. This visual fable begins with the origins of the Flevoland landscape: with the use of reeds, water became land again. In this small procession of boats, this natural material is given a historical place in an environment full of life where the rise in water is once again an issue. Floating on the water, the reeds drift, on their way to a new destination. It is marked, possibly sent ahead, moving, somewhere between water and land, between now and not much later.
Suze Miltenburg & Stieneke Oeverbeek: “The period in which the land was sown to accelerate the transition from water to land is a poetic moment in Flevoland's history. The people of the old land looked out over a sea of reeds. A kind of in-between space that we want to bring into the present.”

About the artist
Suze van Miltenburg is a theatre and programme creator. In recent years she has developed projects with Ulrike Quade Company, Company New Heroes, Festival Cement and Flevolab. In her projects, the audience is often the starting point. In this way, she investigates how she can use art to create a new connection with each other, the issue and the landscape.
Stieneke Oeverbeek creates artworks where research into classical crafts is often the starting point, from a newly discovered vision of local identity. Her work has previously been exhibited at StrandLab, Gemeentehuis Urk, Museum Schokland and Museum Nagele.
