Light Art

The full programme for the Alluminous Light Art Festival will be announced on the opening day, 9 October 2026. But we’re happy to give you a sneak peek!

In 2026, Alluminous will continue to work with partners from Almere to make the festival program spectacular. In collaboration with Vis à Vis we present a light art project by Rutger Buiter on the Stedenwijk beach. Together with Suburbia we are developing a light art project with artist Simon Wald-Lasowski. With the Almere Black Pencil Ensemble we are developing a spectacular project on the Diafragmapad, in the Lumière Park. BonteHond, together with artist Sietse van der Wal and Collage Almere, is developing an educational artwork about constellations, together with more than 500 children from Almere primary schools.

Technology and light together become art! Alluminous will start the Tech X Art X Light program in 2026. Over the next three years, Alluminous will dive with artists into how technology and light can together become art, with a direct focus on innovation for the region. In 2026 we will start with the artwork 'Turbine Songs' by artist Dennis van Tilburg, in which wind as a driving force creates light and sound, in a landscape of windmills.

Artist Simon Wald-Lasowski creates new work for Alluminous. For the first Alluminous Light Art Festival in 2022 (together with Hendrik Walther), he created the artwork Holy Plankton: the hula-hooping whale street on a toilet house at Fantasiestrand, which immediately became an Alluminous icon. For Alluminous 2026, Simon is creating a new work of art that is about meditative breathing with light as a result, with an immense naked cat as a Yogi master. Alluminous is working with Suburbia on this project.

To make Alluminous' light art route extra spectacular in 2026, Alluminous is developing several projects around the Weerwater with artist and light designer Robin Beekman in our In House Art program. Robin will present various light art interventions in the Lumière Park, on the Weerwater Bridge, along the Oeverpromenade on the Stedenwijk side of the Weerwater, and on the Atlantis Beach. Robin works on these projects together with our technology partner Luxonos.

Alluminous collaborates with the Almere Technasium Poort to present a special work of light art-concepts developed by students of the Technasium. After the first successful collaboration in 2025, the students developed concepts for a light artwork, after which one proposal was selected to be shown to our audience at Alluminous. The students are now working with our team to create the artwork, based on their concept, which will be presented on Utopia Island.

Alluminous has many artworks developed on commission, but also selects light artworks that are so spectacular that, although they have already been seen elsewhere, they deserve a place in our program. This year, for example, we are showing light artworks by the French design collective Pitaya and the Dutch light artist Gijs van Bon. Gijs will show his artwork PING at the start of the route, in the Lumière Park. Pitaya shows an artwork high in the row of trees in the Hortus area.
