Aura Farming

Aura Farming

Simon Wald-Lasowski & Tim Vermeulen (on behalf of Suburbia)

A meditating hairless cat and his curious entourage seem to have landed in Almere from another dimension. Through breathing and visualization exercises, they aim to bring us closer to our own source of light. Light can be electric, but also spiritual. You can consume it, but also generate it yourself – right? As these animals synchronize together, a new space for techno-spiritual reflection emerges, where chakras light up in LED colors and a new network of strange togetherness unfolds. Not scary, but pleasantly absurd, and although unsettling, still ‘wholesome’ in an unexpected way.

About the artist

About the artist

Simon Wald-Lasowski (b. 1980, Paris) collects, manipulates, and undermines the iconography of images, objects, and signs that are so characteristic of contemporary society.

A jester at heart, Simon stumbles upon his ‘palette’ of objects through chance encounters, careful observations, and conversations. Through DIY modifications and assemblages, kitschy gadgets and grotesque curiosities become actors in satirical installations, films, and sculptures. His work seduces the viewer with playful, colorful aesthetics and confronts us with the absurdities of the human condition, our compulsive culture of excess, and the enormous underbelly of our morbid consumerism. His practice functions both as an eccentric archive of the Anthropocene and a mischievous critique of capitalism.

Simon was a participant at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht and presented solo exhibitions at W139 in Amsterdam and 1646 in The Hague. In addition, he created installations in public spaces for organizations such as Get Lost art route and Welcome Stranger, among others.

Tim Vermeulen
often works from technology and designs for theater performances, such as Eva Line de Boer, BOG, Club Gewalt and Koen Verheijden, but also as art director on major music shows by Jon Hopkins, Olafur Arnalds, Efterklang and Joep Beving. His autonomous work often focuses on technological research and stylistic experiment. In addition to his own practice, he is part of the scenography collective SIDF.
