Rising Stars
Sietse van der Wal (on behalf of BonteHond)
High among the trees, eight large screens full of constellations appear, devised by more than 900 primary school children from Almere. Children are often asked what they want to be when they grow up, but they are already champions in something: from being lazy to dancing, from eating to gaming. During workshops they depicted their talents as constellations. Their stars are projected in the sky, connected by lines that pass by like shooting stars. Look up and discover the generation that is coming. Maybe you recognize your own star among these rising stars.
This artwork was commissioned by Alluminous Light Festival in collaboration with BonteHond and Collage Almere.

About the artist

Sietse van der Wal (1977) is a visual artist who lives and works in Almere. After studying biology and at the Amsterdam School of the Arts, he worked on multi-disciplinary projects, mostly spatial projects, with a preference for installations. As an artist inspired by life, death and transience, Sietse has been researching social themes such as masculinity or, for Alluminous, the power of the child. In addition to his work as a visual artist, Sietse is involved as an art teacher at the Meergronden in Almere Haven.
